Jacks

A jack is used to lift a part of the vehicle off the ground or to lift heavy components to the installation site. The most famous vehicle’s emergency jack is part of the wheel replacement set. These cranes must not be used to support the vehicle when intervening under the vehicle. They are only used to lift the vehicle so that the vehicle is then carefully lowered onto the appropriate jack stands.

There are three main types of jacks: hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical. In hydraulic jacks, pressurized oil acts on the piston to lift. Pneumatic jacks use compressed air for lifting the vehicle. In the case of mechanical jacks, screws or gears are used to create the mechanical lever required for lifting.

Each jack must always be used for its intended purpose and by the manufacturer’s instructions. Regular inspections should be performed to ensure their safety in use.

Always use the appropriate type of jack and pay attention to the maximum load capacity.

According to the purpose and shape, there are several types of jacks.

Floor jacks

Floor jacks are unavoidable hydraulic cranes in every car workshop. They are mounted on four wheels, two of which are movable so that they can be more easily positioned for lifting. They have a long lever that is used to control and create hydraulic pressure in the lifting mechanism. Floor jacks are low and suitable to position under the vehicle.

Bottle jacks

Bottle jacks are portable jack that usually has a hydraulic drive. They have a handle through which the hydraulic pressure is created, which raises the lever with the stand vertically from the center.

Air jacks

Air jacks use compressed air to inflate the air bags. They are used as an alternative to floor jacks. The air bags are placed on a mobile platform with a long handle. They have a quick-connect fitting for compressed air. They inflate the air under pressure with rubber bags and lift the vehicle over the stand at the top.

Scissor jacks

Scissor jacks are the most common type of mechanical jack that is an integral part of the equipment of a wheel replacement vehicle. Used to jack one vehicle wheel. A screw is screwed over the handle, which acts on the lifting levers in the form of scissors.

Transmission jacks

A special type of jack is used to lower and raise the transmission. This jack is mounted on a wheeled stand and has a specially adapted surface at the top for secure transmission support. They are usually hydraulically driven but can also be powered by compressed air.

Engine hoists

Engine hoist is specially made for pulling out, carrying and placing the engine on the chassis of the vehicle. These hoists have a hydraulic drive, which lifts the engine via an arm, chain and hook. The crane is mounted on wheels, which easily and safely transports the engine to the storage location.
