Power steering pump replacement
The power steering pump replacement is performed when, due to difficult and noisy steering, it is determined that the cause is a defective pump. The steering pump pushes the steering fluid under a certain pressure into the hydraulic system, where the steering box makes it easier to control the vehicle via the steering wheel.
It is necessary to determine the malfunction of the steering pump before replacing it. Often the symptoms that point to the pump, the cause of the malfunction can be a low fluid level or air inside the hydraulic part of the steering system.
Before removing the pump, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the manufacturer’s instructions on how to replace it. After determining the procedure, the vehicle is lifted with a hoist, and the power steering fluid is drained from the system and disposed of by legal regulations on environmental protection.
Removing the steering pump begins the disconnect of hoses from the pump. Then the drive belt is removed, and the condition is inspected. At the end of the removal, fasten the screws and remove the steering pump.
