Accelerator-pedal module test

Testing the condition and operation of the position sensor is a procedure that determines the correctness of the Electronic throttle control (ETC) in the electronic engine power control system. The test procedure includes a review of the accelerator pedal and the electrical correctness of the position sensor.

Inspect the accelerator pedal for visible damage such as broken parts or cracks. Also, check mechanical functionality during startup. It is necessary to push it smoothly, whereby the pedal creates a certain resistance and returns to the starting position by itself

Remove the socket from the accelerator pedal, and with the power on the measure power supply on the appropriate pins as specified in the information system for the given vehicle. The size of the supply voltage should be around 5 V. Care should be taken that there is a separate power supply for each position sensor. If there is no voltage, continue the search towards the control unit. A possible cause of the power interruption may be the power cable or the control unit.

Checking the pedal position sensor is done by measuring the resistance, that is, the output voltage or by reading the value through diagnostics.
With the socket disconnected, the total resistance at the ends of the potentiometers is first measured and compared with the set values. After that, an ohmmeter is connected between the minus terminal and the slider output. The resistance is measured when the pedal is released and fully depressed.
Also, the pedal position sensor checked can be by measuring the output voltage when the socket pedal is connected and the power is on. The output voltage is measured in zero and full positions.
All this can be checked via diagnostics by reading the actual values for both sensors.
It is desirable to record a graph of the output from the sensor from initial to full deflection and back. The waveform must not have interruptions.
You should know that outputs from sensors are different because a resistor is added to one of the potentiometers.

To accelerator-pedal module test, follow these steps:

Pedal overview

Visually inspect the pedal for damage. Press down and release the gas pedal. Estimate the strength of the thrust resistance. Make sure that the pedal is pressed smoothly and returns to the initial position independently.

Checking power supply

Remove the socket from the pedal. Determine the arrangement of pins on the socket. Turn on the power supply. Use a voltmeter to measure the power supply for both sensors. If the voltage value is different from the prescribed or there is no voltage, continue the search to determine the cause of the irregularity.

Pedal position sensor test

With the socket removed, measure and compare the total resistance of both sensors. At the output, measure the resistance when the pedal is released and pressed all the way. This can be done by measuring the output voltage with a voltmeter or via diagnostics when the socket is connected and the power supply is on. Record and analyze the output signal in the entire range with an oscilloscope or through diagnostics. If any value is outside the default, replace the accelerator-pedal module.
