Inspecting brake lines and hoses

All vehicle manufacturers recommend inspecting the condition of the brake lines and hoses. Regular inspection can show where brake line maintenance is required to prevent brake system failures.

The inspection covers the condition of steel and reinforced lines, joints, couplings, and supports. The brake lines are inspected from the master cylinder to the brake units on the vehicle wheels.

Steel brake lines are inspected for brake fluid leaks, dents, twists, bends, rust, and cracks.

Inspecting brake lines

Flexible rubber-reinforced brake hoses are inspected for appearance, brake fluid leaks, cracks, fissures, chap surfaces, bulges, wear, twisting, and crushing.

Damaged brake hose

Couplings and supports are checked. It is necessary to tighten the loose couplings and return the dropped lines to the appropriate position.

To inspecting brake lines and hoses, follow these steps:

Vehicle preparation

Safely raise the vehicle with a hoist to the required height.

Brake line inspection

Inspect all brake lines from the master cylinder to the wheel brake units. Record any detected irregularities and replace damaged brake lines.

Inspection of couplings and supports

Inspect and tighten loose brake line couplings and supports.
