Power steering fluid check

Power steering fluid was checked regularly and the reservoir topped up if necessary. Too little or contaminated and old power steering fluid leads to irregular operation of the steering system.

Before checking the power steering fluid level, it is necessary to find out from the manual for that vehicle whether the measurement is performed when the engine is cold or warmed up. The reservoir cap contains a dipstick with min and max markings. Often there are markings for cold and hot measurements on the dipstick. It is more accurate to measure the level when the engine is warmed up, i.e. when the power steering fluid is warm.

Be careful when working with power steering fluid as it is a highly flammable liquid. When power steering fluid gets on hot parts of the engine or exhaust system it can cause a fire.
