Safe Lifting
Improper lifting of loads can lead to injury. However, by lifting correctly, you reduce the chance of injuring yourself or others. Before lifting, you should consider the possibilities of the load transfer procedure. You can use mechanical devices to assist in lifting, break the load into smaller quantities, or ask for help.
If you have to bend down to lift something, you should bend your knees to lower your body. Do not bend with your legs extended as this can damage your back. Place your feet shoulder-width apart, standing close to the load and position yourself so that your centre of gravity is between your feet. Lift the load by straightening your legs while keeping your back as straight as possible.
