Bench vice

A vice is used for gripping and holding a workpiece in position for carrying out its various bench working operations, such as cutting, filing, bending,  chiseling, etc. The objects are accepted between two parallel jaws, one of which is fixed, and the other is moved by turning the clamping screw. The vice base is fastened to the work table with screws. The vice can have a fixed or swivel base. The turntable allows the vice to rotate, providing easier access to the clamped material during operation.

The receiving surface of jaws is serrated, which provides a stronger grip. The jaw is extremely strong and can damage softer materials when tightened. To prevent such damage, a pair of softer jaws made of aluminum, copper, brass or rubber are mounted.
