Suspension tools

There are general and specially designed tools for working on the suspension system. Some are used to test the condition, and some to repair the suspension elements.

The following tools and equipment are used to service the suspension system:

Pry bars

Used to pry parts to check for play.

Pitman arm puller

Used to pull the pitman arm from the sector shaft.

Tie-Rod End and Ball Joint Puller

Used to remove tie-rod ends and pull ball joint studs from the steering knuckle.

Tie-rod sleeve-adjustment tool

A tie-rod sleeve-adjusting tool is required to rotate the tie-rod sleeves and perform some front wheel adjustments.

Ball joint separator pickle fork

Used to remove ball joints, tie rods, pitman arm, and other linkages. During removal, ruins the grease seal and is not the most suitable tool for removing components if they need to be used again.

Spring/strut compressor tool

Used to compress coil springs during removal and installation.

Dial indicators

Used to measure play in ball joints.
